»History of Violence« retraces the story of Christmas Eve 2012, when the gay narrator met Reda, a migrant, on the street. They spend a night together when Reda pulls out a gun and says that he is going to kill the narrator. Reda insults the narrator, strangles and rapes him. The next day, the medical and legal proceedings begin. The book looks at immigration, dispossession, racism, misery, desire and the effects of trauma in an attempt to understand, and to outline a history of violence, its origins, its reasons and its causes.
