Polyamory bedeutet, Liebesbeziehungen zu mehr als einem Menschen zur selben Zeit zu haben.
Dabei stellt das polyamore Konzept die Vorstellung in Frage, dass Zweierbeziehungen die einzig erstrebenswerte oder mögliche Form des Zusammenlebens darstellen. Es geht also gerade nicht um Affären und dergleichen neben der einen öffentlich etablierten Zweierbeziehung.
Polyamory will mehr und qualitativ auch etwas anderes sein als freie Liebe (auch ein Löwenherz-Thema) und so wird der Begriff auch weltanschaulich stark in der sozialwissenschaftlichen Diskussion aufgeladen.
