When she awakens in 1941 Felix is alive and Nathan is her husband. In 1918 Nathan is away at war, Greta finds a handsome young lover, and Felix is alive although very much hiding his homosexuality. As she travels in cycles through 1918, 1941 and 1985, Greta glimpses versions of war, history, herself and the people she loves, and as the procedures come to an end, she realizes she must make a choice - one which will close every door but one, forever.
