(* 3. Februar 1874; ? 27. Juli 1946) war eine amerikanischeSchriftstellerin, Verlegerin und Kunstsammlerin. Gertrude Stein zählt zu den ersten Frauen der klassischen literarischen Moderne. In ihren experimentellen Romane, Novellen, Essays, Gedichte, literarischen Porträts und Bühnenwerke, setzte sie sich über sprachliche und literarische Konventionen hinweg. Zusammen mit ihrer Lebensgefährtin Alice B. Toklas unterhielt sie einen Salon, der ein bedeutendes Zentrum kulturellen Lebens war.
