Set in a United States in which half the population has been silenced, »Vox« is the harrowing dystopia of what one woman will do to protect herself and her daughter. On the day the government - influenced by the religious right - decrees that women are no longer allowed more than one hundred words per day, Dr. Jean McClellan is in denial. This can't happen here. Not in America. Not to her. Not in the 21st century. This is just the beginning. Soon women are not permitted to hold jobs. Girls are no longer taught in school to read or write. Females no longer have a voice, are considered inferior to males, are supposed to do what their male relatives want them to do. Before, the average person spoke sixteen thousand words each day, but now women have only one hundred to make themselves heard. If they cross the limit they get a painful electro shock. The U.S. still looks like a democracy on paper but as a result of elections there are no more women in any position of power. The religious right has taken over. The anti-feminist rollback is in full swing and will lead to a total deprivation of women. Men do everything to make this new patriarchy a permanent one. Boys learn in school that they are superior to girls and have to take care of them. They have no interest in changing that system - they profit from it as the new rulers. For herself, her daughter, and every woman silenced, Jean will now reclaim her voice.
