Andrea Ott-Dahl agreed to act as a pregnancy surrogate for a wealthy Silicon Valley family. When pre-natal testing revealed the baby would be born with Down syndrome, Andrea was urged to abort. Facing both legal and medical challenges, she and her lesbian partner Keston chose instead to adopt and raise the child, Delaney, educating themselves as fully as possible. They immediately began an early intervention program with therapies and supplements in utero, to give Delaney's cognitive abilities a head start even before she was born. But their journey also included personal challenges as they struggled with the emotional reality of having a child whose special needs threatened to overshadow their family and other relationships.
