The story concerns two gay men, Michael and Robert, who have been lovers for years. Robert is being transferred out of the country to work for an international organization in Africa for two years, leaving his lover Michael behind. Michael has now to take care of his former lover Nick on his own. Nick is dying of AIDS. So begins a surprisingly funny, wonderfully acted love story set in the gay scene of 1980s Manhattan. It's one of the best movies about gays in the USA in the 1980s. Steve Buscemi is playing one of his first major movie roles.
