Sir Roger David Casement (irisch: Ruairí Dáithí Mac Easmainn)
(* 1. September 1864; † 3. August 1916) war ein britischer Diplomat, der entscheidend an der Aufklärung der Kongogräuel beteiligt war und sich später als irischer Nationalist für die Unabhängigkeit Irlands von Großbritannien einsetzte.
Obwohl seine Homosexualität in seinen Tagebüchern deutlich belegt ist, wollen vor allem konservative irische Katholiken weitestgehend nicht akzeptieren, dass einer ihrer Nationalhelden schwul gewesen sein soll. Jenseits dessen wurde jedenfalls Roger Casement Opfer der ihm von der britischen Presse angelastete Homosexualität: Bereits verfasste Gnadengesuche (z.B. von Präsident Wilson) wurden wegen der erfolgreichen Hetzkampagne gegen Roger Casement zurückgezogen, der vermeintlich nur formell zum Tode verurteilte Roger Casement wurde hingerichtet.
