»Transamerica« war einer der Favoriten bei der diesjährigen Oscar-Verleihung. Auch wenn es zu den Oscars nicht gereicht hat, ist »Transamerica« dennoch ein sehenswerter Film: Bree ist transsexuell und steht kurz vor der letzten Operation, die sie endgültig in eine Frau verwandeln soll. Da erhält sie einen Anruf aus einem New Yorker Jugendgefängnis: Toby ist das Ergebnis einer heißen, aber längst vergessenen Nacht zu High School-Zeiten, als Bree noch ein Mann war und Stanley hieß. Und nun steckt Toby in Schwierigkeiten. Er wurde festgenommen, weil er auf den Strich gegangen ist. Die zuständigen Stellen drängen Bree, sich um den gestrauchelten Burschen zu kümmern. Doch der hat seine eigene Agenda: er will unbedingt seinen Vater Stanley finden. Bree outet sich nicht und nimmt den Burschen mit.Die DVD ist leider derzeit nicht lieferbar.
