Autor Jan Holland ließ sich durch seine eigenen Erfahrungen als Callboy zu diesem erotischen Roman aus der kleinen roten Reihe inspirieren. Hauptperson Jan hat alles, was man sich als schwuler Mann wünschen kann: ein Aussehen, mit dem er praktisch jeden Mann haben kann, eine Ausstattung im unteren Department, das andere Männer vor Neid erblassen lässt, und eine Libido, die jederzeit einsatzbereit ist. Was will Mann mehr? Eines Tages erfährt Jan, dass einer seiner Kunden ermordet worden ist. Wäre es jemand gewesen, der ihm egal ist, hätte er einfach darüber hinweg gehen können. So aber - der Mann war ihm sympathisch - stellt er auf eigene Faust Nachforschungen in der Stricherszene an, um den Mörder zu finden. Dabei verbindet Jan das Nützliche mit dem Angenehmen: das eine oder andere Sexgeschichten lässt sich zwischendurch einflechten - die Verführungen sind ja auch zu groß.

Der kanadische Comiczeichner Patrick Fillion hat im Laufe der Jahre ein beachtliches - und z.T. nicht mehr leicht zu überschauendes - Werk angehäuft. »Bliss« zeigt einen Querschnitt durch Fillions Comics - mit einem Schwergewicht auf eher aktuellen Zeichnungen. Wie immer schwelgt Fillion in versauten Szenen. Mit seinen drallen Helden (mal rein menschlich, mal animalisch, mal superheldenhaft außerirdisch) hat es die Natur wirklich gut gemeint. In allen Departments sind diese »Supermänner« und »Superwesen« wirklich phänomenal gut ausgestattet. Diese ohne Hemmungen entworfenen, schwulen Pin-ups können gut in die Lücke treten, die Tom of Finland hinterlassen hat. Und wer weiß: eines Tages ist Fillions Comics aus dem Canon schwuler Ästhetik nicht mehr wegzudenken, und Generationen von Comiczeichnern werden von ihm beeinflusst sein.
