Als Mann in Deutschland gleichzeitig türkischer Herkunft und schwul zu sein bedeutet im Konkreten einer doppelten Marginalisierung (nämlich einmal ethnisch, einmal sexuell) ausgeliefert zu sein - und dies in einer Atmosphäre, die überwiegend durch Stereotypen geprägt ist. Neben Interviews analysiert der Autor auch die seit den 90er Jahren aufkommenden künstlerischen wie politischen »Repräsentationen« dieser spezifischen Identitätskultur anhand von Filmen, Theaterstücken und politischen Diskursen. Allen gemeinsam ist eine Gegenüberstellung von normativem Integrationsmodell und Kritik an der diskriminierenden Mehrheitskultur. In dieser Untersuchung überschneiden sich Postcolonial Studies und Queer Studies. Sie kommt zu dem Ergebnis, dass sich ein schwuler Deutschtürke nur dann integrieren kann, wenn er sich im Performativen ent-ethnisiert.

This is a queer theory of visual art - based on extensive readings of art works. »Queer Art« traces the question of how strategies of denormalization initiated by visual arts can be continued through writing. Art theoretical debates are combined with queer theory, postcolonial theory, and (dis)ability studies, proposing the three terms »radical drag«, »transtemporal drag«, and »abstract drag«. The works discussed include those by Zoe Leonard, Shinique Smith, Jack Smith, Wu Ingrid Tsang, Ron Vawter, Bob Flanagan, Henrik Olesen, Felix Gonzalez-Torres, Sharon Hayes, and Pauline Boudry/ Renate Lorenz. Images are increasingly appearing in the field of queer art that undermine the established categories of radicalized or gender categories, or that show no bodies at all.

Despite its centuries-long tradition of literary and artistic depictions of love between men, around the fin de siècle Japanese culture began to portray same-sex desire as immoral. This book looks at the response to this mindset during the critical era of cultural ferment between the two world wars. The author focuses on key writers, examining how they experimented with new language, genres, and ideas to find fresh ways to represent love and desire between men. He traces the personal and literary relationships between contemporaries such as the poet Murayama Kaita, the mystery writers Eogawa Ranpo and Hamao Shiro, the anthropologist Iwata Jun'ichi, and the avant-garde innovator Inagaki Taruho, showing how these authors interjected the subject of male homoeroticism into discussions of modern art, aesthetics, and perversity.
